Vo: (lookin at I-20) okay, so u hava fellowship of $2000.
Me: And a non resident tuition waiver.
Vo: Okay. so how are you financing the rest?
Me: Family funds and a bank loan.
Vo: What dus ur father do?
Me: Said the title nd organization.
Vo: Income ?
Me: Said
Vo: ur income in ur job?
Me: said
Vo: okay, ur application is accepted, it will be couriered by next week.




Destination : University of Wisconsin Madison
Major : MS and PhD. Mechanical Engineering
Visa Interview Location : Chennai
Waiting time : 1 hour (they open counters only at 8)
Time of Interview : 7.00 am
First time I am applying.
Any instances before the interview:
a. first they check your passport and interview letter at the entrance.
b. then you go through a scan safety check.
c. then go in to the first series of counters where they take your 3 application forms, sevis receipts, passport, hdfc forms, degree cert and put it in a separate folder and give it back to u
(they will stick the hdfc barcode number sticker on your passport)

Me:Doing great, how you?
Vo: very good, thank you.
VO: Going in for ? (he sees my i20)
Me: Masters and Doctorate MEch E.
VO: Oh. Good. So you got funding!
Me: Yes
VO: can i see your gre and toefl scores?
Me: (hand them over)
VO: your Ug percentage?
Me: am currently pursuing UG, so till now, 86%
VO: (raises eyebrows) oh! you must be good!
me: (smiles)
VO: I am issuing you your Visa!.
me: thanks
VO: have a great time at Wisconsin!
Me: Thanks I will! and you have a great day!
VO: Thank you!




Miscellaneous info /Advice : Be very confident. Smile. Show them that you can manage yourself very well at US with your confidence and attitude. And never get flustered. Even if they ask for documents which you dont have, tell them you dont, and say a sorry. Chances are that they will overlook the mistake and issue you the Visa.
The guy before me was asked about his family and he went on to give a lengthy description of the whole neighborhood, tll the officer cut him in. Avoid lengthy speech, be concise and crisp.
