ME: Yes sir but the technology comes from the US na!!
(got visibly happy with that answer)
VO: CSU is an expensive university. How do you plan to fund your studies?
ME: Sir, I've received an assistantship and a fellowship from the university which will entirely cover my tuition and living expenses.
VO: But your I-20 doesn't reflect that
ME: My funding got sanctioned after I received my I-20. My university said that they would be upgrading this info to the consulate; its strange that they haven't. I have the original offer letter with me. Would you like to see that?
(VO takes the offer letter and scrutinizes it very carefully and looks upset.)
VO: Was this offer letter DEFINITELY received from the university?
(I got really scared after this question and thought that my visa would mostly be rejected)
ME: Ofcourse Sir. I received a soft copy from the Prof. I took the printout, signed it and got it formally notarized from a lawyer. Then I sent a scanned copy of the letter to the university. I also have a copy of the fellowship letter.

VO: No, thank you. I just asked that coz the letter was notarized in India.
ME: I signed it in India, Sir, in front of a lawyer so it HAD to be notarized in India.
VO: Ok, what are your plans after MS?
ME: I plan to come back to India. (He grins and kinda laughs which suggested "Ya right!!" So I continue..) My field is currently booming in India and there are plentiful opportunities. Armed with an MS from a strong univ. I stand a better chance of getting a good opening in India. (Really spoke the truth here!!)
VO: Have you ever been to the US?
ME: No Sir.
VO: What are you currently doing?
ME: I just took my final year undergraduate exams and I am awaiting results.
VO: So a student, eh? Which school?
ME: UDCT Sir. In Mumbai. Now known as ICT.
VO: Are you married?
ME: NOOO....and I start laughing
VO: Well, I am issuing you a visa (smiles). It will be sent to you in 2-3 days. Congrats! Bbye.
